October BJP08

I've finished both versions of my October page, the larger one which I started first and found out was the wrong size and the newer, smaller one which is correct. I call them "On the Wild Side" as the frog, ladybug and square beads seem to suggest.
This month was yellow orange on my colorwheel theme. I used the square beads which I received from Grace of Gracebeading, a piece of sea glass on the larger page which is a gift from some litter bug and the sea, three medium size beads in the bugle part of the fans on the small page which were gifted by my grandchildren one Christmas and a frog bead.
The frog bead was made by myself out of a smashed bottle cap "gifted" by my husband, a piece of paper and an old, used, vinyl frog sticker. I glued the items on the cap and then coated them with a resin glaze by Deco Art. I punched holes in the two ends so I could stitch it down. Actually, the other side is the side I was trying to use as an experiment with the resin but this side worked for my page.
I used Robin's paper backing idea for stitching these and then glued some thick pellon to the back, folded and glued the fabric to the back side and also glued a piece of ultra suede to the back (not all the way to the edge so a needle could still get through) before adding the beaded edging.
I am happy with the way they both turned out. The big one looked a bit plain but after I added the cross stitching to "sew it all up" I was a lot happier.

I really like the idea of using the colors of the color wheel. Your little frog piece is the eyecatcher contrast to the beautiful golds. Two pieces! you must have been on a beading roll last month. Very nice.

I love them. This is great! What impresses me most is you made the frog yourself. Good, great work! Very neat and orderly too.

I like the stiff backing myself. I've often used Robin's paper way, but I like my way of putting an actual photo on the front better. But that is because I don't like the sound of the paper and I imagine it dulls the needle. I say imagine, as I'm not positive, just feels that way to me. Now why I think my paper doesn't dull the needle I have no clue. That's why I say imagine. I'm so weird that way! But, I think your's looks great!

And the big one said "Meet Mini Me!" What great pages. I love it that you improvised the frog. He is so fantastic. He certainly adds some humor to the page. Wonderful pieces and beautiful beading. Very creative.

I can't decide which one I like best, they are both so beautiful. The frog is great, but I really like fans..... good thing I don't really have to make a decision.

I have to say you lost absolutely nothing by shrinking the size of the page. I cant believe how pretty they both turned out. I love the frog and the story behind him too. I love the monochromatic look to both these pieces. Your beadwork is flawless and color choice, technique as well. Great work. take a bow my dear, you deserve it!

I like them both very much. If you would call for a vote, I would go for the bigger piece, because I love the frog sew-on you made.

Thank you all for stopping by and leaving your comments.

Jacqui - The big piece was started accidentally so I just kept going but added the correct smaller piece.

Mary Timme, It's funny but sometimes how something feels makes the difference between toil and enjoyment and it really doesn't have to make sense.

I'm glad so many of you liked my frog. I didn't plan on using him but he does make the page more fun.

And Carol said... - I am glad my beading is getting you get back to your own. Jump right in and have fun with it.

Are you taking all this in, Timaree???!!!!! WOW! I agree with everyone's comments... they're fabulous, indeed! Thanks for telling how you converted an old bottle cap to a froggie bead. I'll have to try some of that resin glaze... it seems to give just the look I'm wanting. On the Wild Side, both one and two, make me feel happy! Thanks! Robin A.
